The Moroccan teams revive tourism in Morocco after the pandemic (Data)

The historic achievement of the Moroccan women's team

The historic achievement of the Moroccan women's team in the World Cup in Australia as the first Arab country to reach the competition and qualify for the second round revived the tourism sector again.

According to our sources, the tourism sector has recovered significantly by the end of the year 2022, driven by the achievement of the

Moroccan national team in the World Cup in Qatar, where it ranked fourth as the first Arab and African country to reach the golden square in the history of the World Cup.

According to a statement by the National Airports Office, “The outcome of air traffic from the beginning of 2022 until the end of November 2022 showed that Moroccan airports recorded a growth in recovery rates compared to the same period in 2019, when 80 percent of passenger traffic and 82 percent of aircraft traffic were received.”, which represents 18,467,415 passengers and 157,687 aircraft movements for all airports.

Moroccan tourism, like others, suffered a lot due to the Corona crisis, which hit the sector for more than a year and a half before it rebounded at the beginning of 2022

The number of tourists arriving in Morocco increased during the middle of this year 2023, until the end of July, to 6.5 million tourists, an increase of 21 percent compared to 2019, according to official figures.

An expert in the tourism sector, Zubair Bohot, said that the increase of more than one million during the first 6 months resulted from the Moroccans  Diaspora.

The same expert emphasized that these numbers are modest because the largest percentage of arrivals are Moroccans, not tourists.

He said that there are markets that declined, such as the Spanish market and the English market, while the German, Dutch, and Belgian markets declined.

International tourism only increased by 2 percent, and the roadmap that has been put in place could achieve an increase this summer.

Regarding the reason for the decline in traditional markets, the expert said that the matter is due to the Corona pandemic, and countries were looking for alternative markets.

Air transport is considered important in the tourism sector, so the closure had a great impact on the tourism sector.

The participation of the Moroccan women's team in the Australian World Cup would attract tourists from new markets, especially in Asia and Australia.

Regarding the productivity of the sector, the ministry highlighted in a press release last July that tourism revenues, which are an important source of hard currency, amounted to 41 billion dirhams at the end of May 2023, recording an exceptional growth of 42 percent compared to the same period in 2019.

The Ministry of Tourism expected, in its communiqué, that these achievements, in addition to the concerted ambitious promotional operations, indicate that our country will experience this year's exceptional summer season in terms of tourism.

It was recalled that many partnerships have been concluded with tour operators and digital travel agencies, with the aim of securing 2.8 million customers during the 2023 summer season.

Travel agencies are among the important mechanisms in promoting tourists and organizing trips.

There are more than 1,200 agencies in Morocco distributed in various regions, especially in major cities such as Casablanca, Rabat, Tangiers, Marrakech, Agadir, and Oujda... See the data
