The player hijab, French media and the historic qualification for the Moroccan national team !

A moment of embrace in-between Nahila Benzina and the goalkeeper of the Moroccan women's team

The Moroccan women's national team qualified for the round of 16 yesterday in the Women's World Cup, which is currently being held in Australia, after an exciting match against Colombia, which defeated Germany. Germany, in turn, defeated the Moroccan national team in the first meeting with six goals, so the Moroccan qualification was exciting and surprising to many followers and football fans. .

Moroccan cafes were a little full. I watched the second half of the match in a small cafe in the old city center of Fez, as I was on my way to Casablanca from Imouzzer.

This article was not originally written about qualification, but rather about the Moroccan player Nhila Benzina, who was attacked by some strange French newspapers, and the focus was on her dress, as the first player in the history of the World Cup to wear a head covering.

Controversial French newspapers focused more on clothing than on playing, the chances of the Moroccan national team qualifying, and the technical qualifications of the players and competing teams! This is one of the surprising things in the French press, which is slowly losing its professional identity.

In the philosophy of Islamic dress, there are great differences between the Arab and Islamic regions, and there are also differences in the culture of dress within the same country.

Moroccan Lionesses celebrating the qualification

In Morocco, for example, there are many types of women's dress:

Djellaba (robes)

It is a long dress that extends up to the ankle and is available on a head cover. The women's djellaba differs from the men's djellaba in the way it is embroidered and colored. Women often do not dress well in the djellaba, given that they wear it over their clothes to go out and take it off as soon as they reach the place of the party.

Caftan

It is made of thin dresses and extends up to the ankle, and takes the form of a djellaba with an ambush without a head cover or an open collar from the front, either along its length or to the belt area, and it is embroidered with gold or silver threads or both, and to this day it is a party dress that does not rival it in status any other uniform.

Takchita

Takchita is a long traditional dress consisting of two pieces worn by Moroccan women, especially at weddings. Takchita fashion is characterized by the quality of the luxurious fabrics used in its manufacture and its bold and harmonious colors.

Mdama

It is a belt within the Moroccan traditional dress, as it wraps around the waist and gives the Moroccan caftan its shape and increases its aesthetics. The wrap has become a unique feature of this Moroccan women's dress, whether it is a kaftan or a takchita. Without the bandage, their elegance is not complete.

Li7af

It is a garment four meters long and one meter sixty centimeters wide, worn by desert women wherever they go. But not all wraps are the same, because the Sahrawi woman distinguishes between the wrap for occasions and the wrap that is worn daily with the tent and without an occasion, just as the Sahrawi woman distinguishes between the wrap for the young woman and the wrap for the old woman. , blue and black, with one “braid”, and upon reaching the age of majority, the young desert woman wears the kilt until her marriage.

Jabador

And it is in the form of a short shirt without a head cover, worn with pants, or long, up to two feet

Kondora

The kandora is a dress with short sleeves and is loose and long

Mountain clothing

The traditional Moroccan dress is associated in the minds of some with the image of the djellaba, whether men or women, and the image of the caftan, but the truth is that Moroccan dress is diverse in the diversity of its regions, and some of it was influenced by different cultures as well.

In the north, the mountain outfit: women wear a white and red striped dress called the handkerchief on the lower part of their bodies, i.e. from the waist to the foot. This dress was one of the Andalusian fashions in which women carried their belongings during expulsions and deportations, and it remains to this day a dress that women of the northern regions adorn themselves with. The mountain women's costume is accompanied by large, brightly decorated hats. As for the djellaba, it is somewhat shorter than its counterparts in other cities and somewhat loose.

Hayek

Hayek is a traditional Maghreb dress of Andalusian origin, which has spread widely throughout the Maghreb. It is a white cloth that a woman wraps around to cover the rest of her body, with the addition of an ajar, which is a small piece of cloth that a woman puts on to cover her face. Some women used to wear it while they were traveling alone for long distances outside the normal housing area. This dress was religious or traditional, usually worn when traveling and moving. After all this diversity, the French newspapers specialized in dress should have looked at the culture of dress instead of focusing on the covered head of the player.

Football, before anything, is a team sport that relies on teamwork and spectacle. Therefore, it is popular and enjoys global follow-up, just as FIFA had no objection to the players’ uniforms, so diversity was important in the World Cup because the world speaks the language of the ball..and not the media polemic. .
